Premiere: Grant Swift “What I’m Thinking”

One half of the acoustic duo Mac/Glidden, Grant Swift is preparing to release his debut album, First Elephant on August 6th. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the single, “What I’m Thinking.”

Swift described the song as “about seasonal depression, and the defeatism and arrogance of a protectionist inner life, as seen from a romantic partner.”

Similar to Mac/Glidden, the song is steeped in nostalgia for the 60s and 70s. Mixing elements of boogie and power pop, “What I’m Thinking” sounds like Big Star covering Canned Heat. What really stands out though is Swift’s voice; with a range akin to Ted Leo, he hits unusually high notes with ease which adds to the 70s psychedelic rock feel.
