On September 10th, Icarus Phoenix will release their new album, No tree can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell. The latest single from the album is “Eddie King.” Over mid-tempo guitars and jaunty drums, lead singer A.R. Herrin tells the tale of the maybe fictional title character. Herrin explains “this is a song loosely based on a dream I had about a person (or my perception of that person) that I admire and love.” In the song, the character is portrayed as a wild child who “played rock and roll and kicked the shit out of everyone” but in the end, it was because Eddie knew that life is short and fleeting. So live life to the fullest because that is what Eddie would like us all to do.
