2023 was arguably the year of Barbie with the movie and the movie’s soundtrack both making big cultural impacts. Samples and remixes of Aqua‘s “Barbie Girl” increased exponentially. While Intended Immigration‘s cover of “Barbie Girl” is a little late to the party, it is nonetheless a useful addition. Swiss-born musician and producer Thomas Feurer, the creative force behind Intended Immigration, creates an upbeat French swing take with plenty of horns and light scatting. It is a fun and unexpected turn for the modern classic.
