Magdalena Bay “Oh Hell”

If Grimes covered Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming-era M83, it might sound like Magdalena Bay‘s new single, “Oh Hell.” With an 80s dream pop backdrop for Mica Tenenbaum’s thin and hazy vocals, the track has an uplifting, ethereal sound. Tenenbaum said “When I wrote ‘Oh Hell,’ I was thinking back to teenage infatuation and how toxic my first relationships were–romance is really glorified when you’re a 13-15 but ‘love’ when you’re that young can be all-consuming in a really scary way.” She continued “the song’s a meditation on that, going back and forth between the female & male voices as I lose my mind to a toxic crush.”
