Mothica “Hungover”

Oklahoma-born, Los Angeles-based singer, Mothica is preparing to release her debut full-length album, Blue Hour. The second single from the album is “Hungover,” an emotive pop track. “When I started writing songs for this album, I knew I wanted to write about my drinking problem in a way that wouldn’t alienate people who don’t have problems with addiction.” She continues “I personified alcohol, because that’s what it was to me. It was my best friend, lover, confidant, hype man, all wrapped in a seductive bottle marked poison.”

“Hungover” has verses that trick you into thinking the song might be a piano ballad, but deep synth horns accent the arena-sized chorus. With a hook ready to get stuck in your head, the emotions in “Hungover” are relatable even if substance addiction is not.
