Pansy “Trash”

In the hierarchy of best opening lines to a song, you have “coming out of my cage and I’ve been doing just fine” followed immediately by “do you ever wake up and feel like trash?” from Pansy‘s new single. The 25-year-old Columbia College graduate explains “‘Trash’ was written when I was 20, more than two years before transitioning, during a two-month gap between an internship and my last semester of school.” She continues “I was so lost to myself and reeling from covering a difficult murder for a newspaper. The 2016 election was coming up and I sensed a coming tidal shift in the world and in my own life.” The result of that shift was “Trash,” an ultimate sad girl anthem. Slow and droning yet catchy and sardonic, the track is immediately engaging with its relatable yet humorous lyrics.
