Alaska’s Paul Jacks is preparing to release his new album, Black Jackal on December 4th. Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the album’s titular track.
The backdrop for the album is an apocalyptic world and its aftermath. That dark, dire feel is apparent on “Black Jackal.” Despite being fairly uptempo, Jacks croons “I can hear your cries/I can feel your sorrow” over a lush but menacing instrumental that sounds somewhere between the Gremlins’ theme and Avalon-era Roxy Music. It’s beautiful and fun sounding–the kind of song you can dance to while crying.
