Premiere: Sketchy Fancy “Pub Rock”

Australia’s Sketchy Fancy is preparing to release their debut album, Good.Bad.Happy.Sad. . Surviving the Golden Age is excited to premiere the album’s lead single, “Pub Rock.”

The first times the vocals hit, “Pub Rock” seems like heartland rock a la Bruce Springsteen or the War on Drugs. Although the tale weaved is specifically about 1980’s Australian pub culture, it isn’t that much different than any midwest bar scene in the US. The chorus is the most unexpected part. A flurry of horns punctuate the choral chant of “take me home.” It evokes both a supportive community and the toll youthful hedonism.
