Various Artists: Friends With Benefits Original Soundtrack
When I first saw the movie Friends With Benefits advertised, I thought “I bet that movie has an awesome soundtrack.” I mean why would a movie starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis as two people hooking up with no strings attached not have excellent music to accompany such a hilarious plot? Luckily, I got a copy of the soundtrack sent to me for review.
If you want to know what kind of soundtrack Friends With Benefits has this is what you need to know: the last song on the soundtrack is Semisonic‘s “Closing Time.” I know what you are thinking, “what a classic yet original choice!?!” Well, the song selections only get better.
The music supervisor kicks off the soundtrack with Philip Steir‘s remix of Steppenwolf‘s “Magic Carpet Ride.” You might remember this track as being infamously mislabeled as a Fatboy Slim remix back in the days of Napster. But that’s not the only old(ish) song on the soundtrack that gets some sprucing up. The soundtrack includes Grant-Lee Phillips‘ covers the Cure classic “Boys Don’t Cry” and Rogue Wave‘s cover of the OK Go single “This Too Shall Pass.”
I’m sure you are thinking “this soundtrack sounds like it is just for white people.” Not true! It features music by hip hop hit makers Kriss Kross as well as Grammy nominated singer Janelle Monae. The soundtrack producers really thought of how to hit every demographic. It is amazing!
