Hollywood Undead “We Are”
“We Are” dressed in masks. I have nothing against a really great looking mask. I just think it’s funny when someone wearing a mask is in a video where they’re clearly the one vocalizing. It basically looks like you’re standing in front of the camera moving every part of you except your mouth. Also, fuck old tvs. If it ain’t a flatscreen, it ain’t worth it. This is a video where the visuals should just be appreciated. There’s no reason to look for a message. Just appreciate the masks. They are badass.
Bonda featuring J.Mike and KJ Hines “Rise Above”
Yes, this is Bonda’s remix of Lil Wayne’s “Right Above It”. We follow Bonda, J.Mike, and KJ Hines around Houston, Texas where they do what rap videos do, stand around rapping. I have to give it up to these guys, they don’t rock a lot of bling. They’re just out there doing their thing. And you have to love the message. Bonda could never hate. He’ll rise above it. His road is called One Way. And that’s one way to the top.
How To Dress Well “& It Was U”
Group hugs and dancing. A gold plated Segway scooter. Cult-like admiration for a golden cloth clad hero. This video is unusual, but it’s nice to see a community come together–a small community, but a community nonetheless. The dancing was nice to see. Obviously we don’t have professionals here, but who needs professionals? This has an endearing public television feel to it.
Dragonette “Merry Xmas (Says Your Text Message)”
This time of year the Holiday songs come out. Now you can take the Michael Buble path and just remake the classic holiday songs or create your own Christmas song. Dragonette have made my new favorite song for Christmas. This video is mostly words on a screen, which makes sense since the song deals with text messaging. Let’s face it, the Holidays are hard. You have to deal with family, the insanity of shopping, and quite possible a breakup. Dragonette’s response to this? That life is better without the other person. This song leaves me chuckling. I hope you get a kick out of it, too.
Skylar Grey featuring Eminem “C’mon Let Me Ride”
This video is fantastic. We get Skylar Grey wielding an axe. Who doesn’t love a woman that can wield an axe? We get Eminem. We get the fliest bicycles I’ve ever seen. We get plenty of sexual innuendos. We also get some humor. Set in a trailer park we see Skylar play a girl who doesn’t want to be like all the tanned beauty queens of the world. She still wants to “ride your bicycle”. Or does she? Let’s face it world, women can be teases.
