6lack was born Ricardo Valentine Jr. in Atlanta, GA where his love for music blossomed. In 2011, he left college to pursue music full time, signing with International Music Group and Strong Arm Records in Miami. While perfecting his craft, 6lack dealt with the hardships of homelessness. Today, the twenty-eight-year-old singer/ songwriter maintains a steady fan base by releasing projects with a laid-back, stoner vibe and captivating lyrics. 6pc Hot EP is 6lack’s third studio album in his nine-year career yet he has a resume full of collabs and awards.
6pc Hot EP, released June 26, 2020, is short but sweet, consisting of six spicy tracks. First up is “ATL Freestyle” in which an acoustic guitar loop and snare drum follow a moderato tempo. 6lack’s mellow voice demands respect for his accomplishments and he also reveals “I get rid of bad friends like a dump truck.” Fatherhood drives 6lack to work harder so he can provide a secure life for his daughter. “Long Nights” is second and features background vocals from D.C. native Ari Lennox. This track uses synth drums and an alto sax to guide the listener along 6lack’s quest to seduce a young baddie. He is “Hoping for a long night” and also encourages his date to partake in libations to release any inhibitions. The fourth track “Know My Rights” featuring Lil Baby is bold with a solid 808 that is softened by an electric bell accompaniment. Both guys are known for collaborating with other artists and releasing popular songs, but ironically this track is their first joint venture. They describe their triumphs and tribulations, recognizing the maturity gained. Last but not least is “Outside” a piano-led love ballad where 6lack expresses his need for a companion to “play with” once the quarantine is over. The wordplay of this track is romantic and transparent as 6lack uses Fabolous’ infamous line “d d d d .… damn” to show his COVID induced anguish.
Overall, 6pc Spicy is sensual and laid back with two tracks that are truly zesty. Most listeners will expect a turn-up session because of the title but 6lack has always been cooler than the other side of the pillow. His zodiac sign is Cancer, which explains the chill demeanor, amazing work ethic, and readiness to express his innermost thoughts. There is no denying 6lack’s top spot in the entertainment world.
