Liverpool artists, Cavalry, released an uplifting track called “Black”. After listening to this band, you may describe their music as fairly mild. They’ve got a creamy blend of contemporary and classic folk sounds. The amount of symbolism in the harmony as well as production is what makes this song take you to a sacred place. Throughout is a gradual build, starting with reverberant guitar and vocals, then slowly adding airy pads and rhythm section to fill the background. At mark 3:25, the vocalist sends the title of the track soaring into what sounds like “blackness”, which is the instrumental bridge. The addition of a sharp siren synth sound in the bridge wraps the whole idea of fading to black into a neat package. As much as the chord progression was repetitious, it portrays exactly what the song is supposed to. The song itself is fading to black.
